This well-established Arctic lodge can be found just 8km from the Russian border, in North East Finland. Surrounded by fells and deep within a pine forest, the location is truly spectacular. The lack of light pollution here means an exceptional record for Aurora viewing in the winter months.
Guests are spoilt for choice when it comes to accommodation. From hotel rooms and log cabins complete with their own private sauna to Aurora options. We recommend spending a night or two in one of the amazing glass domed Aurora bubbles, or in a glass fronted Aurora Kota, both make it possible to lie in bed and gaze in wonder at the dancing skies, if the northern lights make an appearance for you.
The team at Nellim are warm and welcoming and many have worked with Mari and Jouko for a long time. They'll go above and beyond to ensure you have a wonderful and memorable stay. They also know exactly where, when and how to find truly breathtaking Arctic experiences.
They’ll be happy to take you trekking, kayaking, dog sledding, snowmobiling, ice fishing…(the list goes on), give you the equipment you need to head out on your own, or leave you to feel at home in the hotel, where you can relax in total comfort.
The hotel’s communal restaurant has a big happy buzz, with visitors sharing their experiences over breakfast, lunch and dinner. Night times feel particularly magical, when you can head outside to sit around a campfire under the stars, swapping stories with the Nellim guides and reflecting on your incredible day.

Aurora Bubbles
Hiding away in the secluded Finnish wilderness, the Aurora Bubbles at Nellim are their most sought after stays. Suitable for couples, sleep in a cozy double bed, protected from the icy temperatures inside the heated pods. Out of the way from light pollution, the ethereal hues of the Aurora Borealis could grace the Northern skies giving guests full view from their glass domed ceilings. The toilet makes up the rest of the interior. A service building nearby provides access to a sauna and shower.
Aurora Kota
Taking inspiration from traditional Sámi huts, the Aurora Kotas is much more spacious as a hybrid of a cabin and a glass tepee. Right above the snug double bed, a large glass roof grants spectacular views of the Arctic sky. If the conditions are right, the spell bounding lights of the Aurora Borealis fills the room. With space for an extra bed, the Kotas can accommodate for small families. Access to shower and sauna facilities is close by in a separate building. A toilet makes up the rest of the interior.
Aurora Cabin
Experience the celestial glow of the Northern Lights in one of two Aurora Cabins, ideal for a family of four. With a traditional hut style build, the cabins provide breath-taking panoramic views of the vast Lappish wilderness. A cushy double bed takes centre stage of the cabin, adjoined is a bathroom with a shower. Sauna facilities are available in a separate building nearby.
